The Aquila Dental office is equipped with modern technology that makes it easier than ever to get the dental treatment you need. CEREC technology makes it possible for our patients to get dental crowns and other restorations in just a single appointment, without waiting for a third-party lab to manufacture your dental prosthesis. Dr. Richard Higgs and the team are proud to offer convenient CEREC technology to make your visit as efficient as possible.

EXPLORE cerec technology

CEREC is an acronym that stands for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics. Using a unique chairside 3D modeling and manufacturing system, CEREC technology creates ceramic porcelain crowns and other dental prostheses like veneers, often in just 30 minutes or less. This means that many oral procedures, such as the placement of dental crowns, can be completed in a single 1-2 hour appointment, rather than requiring multiple lengthy appointments.

Video Transcript
Hi everybody today we are making a video about making same day crown in the office – a technology called CEREC. Been around for more than 30 years but it has really gotten fantastic n the at least 10 or so and we are able to make a crown which traditionally would take at least 2 weeks to get from this appointment to the next where the patient would have to wear a temporary crown – we are able to do it in about an hour or in about 20 minutes to an hour and a half, so I am going to start; Todd my patient is gracious to let us do this with him so let me go ahead and make a virtual model. See you in a minute when we are designing the crown! Okay so we have got the model created so this is a 3D model, Todd’s prepared to and now for the magic of modern computing, we are going to design a crown! Ooh! (laughs) here it comes. Is that not neat? And there we can get rid of the rest of the teeth and show you what the crown looks like and that is what is going to be made in the back with aluminum so we will see you in a minute and we will get the crown milling. So this is the porcelain block that we will be milling the crown out of we have a couple of million units here we are going to be putting it in the top one because that is the mill we use a porcelain called EMax and you might notice that it is purple – and the patient did not request a purple tooth, so it will get milled in a slightly softer state which is the purple porcelain and then it will go into an oven where we will put staining glaze on it and put it in the oven and once it goes through the firing little mini kiln action then it becomes the tooth or the color that we select. So I am going to have my teammate Nicki put this in and I am going got push start. We have a couple here so I have to make sure to put the right one in. the right block – So there is our crown right out of the oven it is purple! Everyone who wants purple tooth so that has got a staining glaze on it – so it is going into our little mini kiln and will take about what – 15 mins in there and then it will come up and be ready to be put in! And there is our lovely crown! (Applause) made in just minutes. Awesome!

UNDERSTANDING the cerec process

Once Dr. Richard Higgs determines that a crown is the proper treatment for your, your teeth will be cleaned, and you will be anesthetized to prepare for the treatment. After this, your tooth is prepared f by removing a small layer of enamel to provide a foundation for the completed dental crown. Dr. Richard Higgs uses an iTero 3D Scanner to take measurements and photos of your mouth and the detailed information from this scan is sent to our CEREC machine.

To ensure a perfect fit and natural look, Dr. Richard Higgs will make some minor adjustments to the tooth restoration and begin the manufacturing process. This takes only a few minutes. The crown will be boned permanently in place to complete the procedure. Typically, this entire process takes just an hour or two, saving you both time and money and while offering immediate treatment for your dental health issues.

DISCOVERING the benefits of cerec technology

Here are just a few of the biggest benefits of CEREC technology that you can look forward to as a patient at Aquila Dental:

  • No temporary crown required – Without CEREC, patients must have a temporary crown placed, and wear it for 2-3 weeks until the permanent crown has been manufactured. These crowns are typically uncomfortable and do not look like natural teeth.
  • Better quality and fit – Dr. Richard Higgs can fine-tune the crafting of your ceramic crown and make adjustments, or even re-do the entire crown if necessary, to ensure a perfect fit and quality.
  • Faster recovery time – You don’t have to recover from two or more appointments, which means you’ll be able to get back to your normal day-to-day life more quickly.
